State-wide infrastructure and industrial specialists GCo Electrical has been awarded Karara Mining Limited’s (KML) Port Electrical and Instrumentation Installation works contract at Geraldton Port, valued at $8.5m – their second largest contract win to date.
CEO Murray Hadley said:
“This is the biggest project that we have ever taken on, and in fact, I don’t recall an electrical company based in Geraldton that has done an electrical job this big before. We will have up to 40 workers on site during peak times.
To date all the workers have either been sourced from the Mid West or have relocated to the Mid West not only for the project but for the wonderful lifestyle that we enjoy."
Work is well underway with substantial completion of the storage facility works expected by May 2012.
GCo Electrical will be installing cables, cable trays, wiring, switch rooms, transformers and lighting plus also carrying out brownfield relocation works of existing Port infrastructure consisting of substations and HV cabling.
The award-winning firm has enjoyed steady growth in the past decade attributed, as Murray says, to “partnering with our clients, taking absolute responsibility for supplying systems and services that meet the highest quality and safety standards and importantly ensuring projects run on time and to budget.”
The awarding of this contract by KML further increases their involvement of local companies and their workforce, currently totalling 270 companies and more than $165m worth of work.
Steve Murdoch, Chief Executive Officer of KML said:
"Once again KML is delighted and proud to be sharing work with another Mid West company. We have an absolute commitment to the Mid West and we want as many businesses and people to share in our success as possible."
GCo Electrical are currently engaged in other substantial industrial and infrastructure projects across the state from the Mid West to the Pilbara all of which are over $1m in value.
